Beach and Bay Water Quality Monitoring Program will use a 3-D watershed model to demonstrate how surface water run-of and pollution leads to contamination of our beaches and bays. This impact on our recreational waters can affect our health. Also, we plan on demonstrating the various laboratory processes used for water quality testing in our public health lab, which help identify if the water has microbial pathogens.
Can creative art and our favorite songs enhance our cognitive health and reduce stress? Come relax and experience the joy of painting while learning about the transformative power of personalized music and the arts. Learn how favorite songs affect brain activity and how hands-on art experiences contribute to general health and well-being. What was the song you danced to at your wedding? The song your mom used to hum or the song you listened to with friends in college?
This is NOT your average science event! The Barrio Logan Science & Art Expo is an inclusive annual event that brings together science, art, and culture. Join the Barrio Logan Association, UC San Diego, and various community partners as we highlight science, art and culture in the world around us and celebrate it through a relevant and cultural lens. Some demonstrations include the science behind lowriders, bikes, skateboards, tortillas, brewing, music and more! For questions, volunteer info or to host a booth, please contact us using the RSVP page.
This special event is catered to K-12 teachers, administrators and educational advocates interested in learning more about nanoscience, resources available to support educators in the classroom and the anticipated impact of nanoscience & technology on the workforce (detailed schedule available on Eventbrite).
1-2 tables manned by 2-4 STEM field Soldiers and 1-2 U.S. Army Recruiters. We will have a hands-on display in the medical, construction, or bomb disposal fields.
Viasat celebrates International Women’s Day!
We’ll be putting the “A” in STEAM by creating a women in STEAM mural with EXPO attendees. Participants who visit the Viasat booth will use their handprints to help create a mural which recognizes the past, present and future of women in STEAM (Science Technology Engineering Art Mathematics).
Enemies armed with quantum computers are coming for your secrets! Can cryptographers shield us from the threat ... before it's too late? Join us for an evening of math fun with local community partner, Wavelength Brewing Co. in downtown Vista Village. Dr. Shahed Sharif from the Department of Mathematics will be discussing, "Thwarting the Quantum Hacker," with a Q&A session to follow. All ages welcome!
This booth will feature mathematics games, folding explorations and fun with circuits.
Have you ever seen a brain pulled out of a fly and dissected right in front of you? How does a fish look as an embryo versus as an adult? Come to the Boz Institute’s open house to learn about our projects and programs, and see for yourself how we use worms, fish, and flies to study environmental pollutants’ effects on gene expression in humans.
It takes true community spirit and engagement to build a successful Festival Week and momentum to support ongoing programs. Our mission is to provide meaningful year-round STEAM experiences for youth and adults alike in San Diego, and throughout the state of CA through our virtual platform.
