The booth will include info about mosquitoes & public health. There will be interactive activities where visitors can look at insect samples under microscopes. Visitors will learn about the mosquito life cycle, entomology, and how to stay safe from vector transmitted diseases. There will also be giveaways like pencils, magnets, or magnifiers. This is NOT your average science event! The Barrio Logan Science & Art Expo is an inclusive annual event that brings together science, art, and culture. Join the Barrio Logan Association, UC San Diego, and various community partners as we highlight science, art and culture in the world around us and celebrate it through a relevant and cultural lens. Some demonstrations include the science behind lowriders, bikes, skateboards, tortillas, brewing, music and more! For questions, volunteer info or to host a booth, please contact us using the RSVP page.
Art is a powerful tool that can transcend barriers – it can help scientists meet people where they are and tell relatable and impacting stories that move minds. With the Conservation + Comics program, Cabrillo National Monument (National Park Service) provides a distinct experience for youth and families in the greater San Diego area. In our two-part program, participants will be guided by a biologist through a thematic nature exploration of the park, then an art educator will lead the participants in an innovative way to tell scientific stories – through comics!
With many of our partner companies issuing new policies around forgoing events, we have made the difficult decision to cancel this event.
There are many STEM Week events that will still be happening this week! Be sure to check them out by clicking on our “STEM Week” link in the banner above!
Thank you for your understanding and flexibility.
