Activities will demonstrate how microgravity affects body fluids in space and how negative pressures can be used to redistribute fluids in space and maintain astronaut health. Our table will have an inflatable alien filled with water and pressure gauges attached at different points to show how fluid pressure changes with posture changes, and an alien in a battery powered negative pressure box to show fluid distribution due to ambient pressure changes.

SBP will be very hands-on with experiments, showing what we do in the lab, yet on lay-friendly level. We will have things for kids and adults to look at (last year it was Virtual reality glasses and proteins, and C.elegans - tiny worms) and be interactive with our scientist volunteers. (exact experiments TBD) We will also apply temporary DNA tattoos, and give out little lab coats. We will make the science exciting and interesting for all!

A bioengineering themed interactive activity centered around linking principles of biology to engineering solutions to common diseases and conditions.

Hands-on bioinformatics activity with legos or paper cards to show the structure of DNA/genes. Emphasis on reconstructing the genome. Participants will then draw a "monster" whose genome they have reconstructed from legos/paper after we explain to them how the reconstruction they did tells us which genes are present. UCSD Bioinformatics PhD students will be volunteers.

Our booth will provide demonstrations and educational games to promote a healthy lifestyle by making behavioral changes to encourage healthy eating and increased physical activity. We will also have information about our wellness and weight loss programs for children and their parents. Plus, other information outlining our research programs examining how children learn how to eat.

Materials and activities to promote the 2018 Walk for Water, Sunday, April 22, at Tecolote Shores on Mission Bay.

The research group at the UC San Diego Eating Disorders Center conducts neurocognitive and neuroimaging research studies on adolescents and young adults to better understand eating disorders. We are looking to recruit healthy control volunteers ages 11-17 to participate in a computerized, skill-based learning study. We will be sharing information about our current studies, results from past research studies, and providing informative and fun activities for kids of all ages.

UCSD Skaggs School of Pharmacy booth will provide an exposure to the health services that pharmacists provide to our society. Through a series of fun and interactive activities, visitors will learn about different diseases such as hypertension, diabetes and asthma. Furthermore, the booth will provide information about immunization, medication safety and pharmaceutical compounding. Examples of activities include learning how to use inhalers and ingredients necessary for pharmaceutical compounding

Converted shipping container, turned science lab. Full length, with ADA accessable ramp is ~30 ft. long x 10ft wide. Inside the container we'll be running 3 experiments, primarily tied to the "unseen world" (what we cannot see with our naked eye, but can with the help of technology and microscopes) and DNA. If possible, we'd also like a space next to the container for a portable tent that could function as additional activity space.
