Let's Talk Trash!

The Recycling Information Booth provides information on waste reduction techniques such as recycling and composting. Information is also available on identification and proper disposal of commercial waste, household hazardous waste, and construction debris. The booth is a collaborative effort between the San Diego County Office of Education and the City of San Diego Environmental Services Department. Interactive games are featured teaching recycling rules in San Diego and general information on waste reduction.

Ms. Smarty-Plants™ from The Water Conservation Garden takes families on a fun and interactive journey of the water cycle that flows through the Colorado River, all the way to your faucet. Make conservation connections along the way with a special mixture of music, magic, and fun. Ms. Smarty-Plants™ ignites the EARTH HERO in each of us! Together “We can change the world with our own two hands.” (This 30 minute program meets California State Standards and was presented to over 55,000 children and adults in 2014) Short Description for Program if needed: Join Ms.

Near Space Ballooning

With the recent surge of interest in space with New Horizons (NASA's mission to Pluto) and hobbyists enthusiasm for launching their own balloons for increased observation and experiment runs, the CaSGC in conjunction with the University of California, San Diego (UCSD), will be exhibiting Near Space Ballooning, unmanned balloons involving using a latex weather balloon, usually filled with Helium, to carry payloads through the Earth's atmosphere to very high altitudes, up to 100,000 feet.

River Bugs Are Cool!

The San Diego River is teeming with life, from 4 foot tall herons to microscopic algae. We invite you to learn from River Park Foundation scientists how the organisms that live in the river can unlock secrets about the San Diego River’s health! Look at real aquatic bugs, play games, and learn about places to explore nature along the San Diego River.

City of San Diego Public Utilities Department - Pure Water San Diego and Water Conservation Programs

Informational materials and free giveaways regarding the City's Pure Water San Diego and water conservation programs will be distributed. We will either have an interactive activity that engages festival attendees to guess the difference between tap, recycled and purified water samples, or we will bring our "'Water' You Know?" jeopardy quiz board that asks fun questions that educate festival attendees of all ages about water.
