Two Scientists Walk Into a Bar® is back, with an artistic twist; Two Scientists, Special Edition: A Scientist and an Artist Walk Into a Bar. For this artistic variant on our popular Two Scientists Walk into a Bar program, we invited artists to the mix. Adults 21+ and local scientists will gather to enjoy something we can all enjoy: a beer and good conversation in a local bar. The scientist and the artist will be easy to spot. Just look for the sign that reads: "Ask us anything about science and art!" Date & Time: March 9, 5:30 – 9:30 PM (Times will vary by location). 25 Scientists.

There’s nothing like surfing: the adrenaline rush when you are about to ride the wave, or the feeling of deep connection with the ocean. What is it about surfing that makes people fall in love with it? Join passionate surfers Chris Clarks and Phil Bresnahan as they share their love for surfing, the science of surfboard shaping and a citizen science approach to keeping our oceans healthy.

Guests will explore the ocean and play with phenomena, science, and nature through hands-on activities at the aquarium. Each day, floor programs will focus on one ocean-related topic including plankton, diversity of whales, and fish buoyancy. Guests will have fun engaging in these hands-on activities and learning about how they can connect understanding to protecting our ocean planet.

Join us for OLP’s Fifth Annual Women’s Symposium on March 15, 2019 at the Academy of Our Lady of Peace.

Explore nature nestled right in the heart of Mission Valley! This special event will include lots of opportunities for kids to practice hands-on science, learn about nearby nature, and share their new knowledge with the community. Kids will get to skim for plankton samples and analyze them, collect river water samples and test the water quality, and go on a guided nature walk along the San Diego River! This hands-on learning opportunity is a great way for the whole family to get outdoors and get to know our region’s namesake waterway!

Visit Ms. Smarty-Plants™ at the beautiful Water Conservation Garden for an outdoor learning adventure! Play along with her special mixture of music and magic, as Ms. Smarty-Plants™ ignites the EARTH HERO in each of us. Learn a special song in American Sign Language, and be inspired to change the world. Kids will enjoy an interactive lesson about the importance of water, tour The Garden’s trails, and plant a succulent to take home. The program is 90 minutes in length and is in line with California State Standards, and NGSS.

This is your chance to be one of the few lucky people to explore the beautiful open space of Eagle Peak Preserve, a 1152 acre conservation area owned by the San Diego River Park Foundation! This area is normally not open to the public, but for River Kids Discovery Days, we will be taking a special group on a guided hike of this special space! Take in the breathtaking views of the San Diego River Gorge, explore the expansive open space, and practice citizen science!
