Don't Try This at Home

Stand back, we're doing SCIENCE! Discover how fun science can be. With these high-energy, educational performances filled with interactive demonstrations, families will learn about how COOL science is as we explore the wonders and power of liquid nitrogen!!

Empresa Performing Arts Foundation with Play-Well TEKnologies

We would love to run a LEGO STEM activity for the booth. We would have a few types of catapults made completely of LEGO that kids can use to try to make a projectile into different baskets. We can discuss the potential energy that is released via a spring. We will also have a lever actioned catapult that will launch the projectile based on the force from the kid on the lever.

Science Guys of San Diego

Are you ready to experience hair-raising electricity?! Participte in ELECRIFYING experiments with our Van de Graaff Generator and Tesla Coil! Get charged up and experience a CRAZY chain shock! Turn on a lightbulb without plugging it in! Levitate tinsel like a magician! Make aluminum pans fly high in the air! Experience this and so much more with the Science Guys of San Diego!

Marine Corps Tactical Systems Support Activity (MCTSSA)

In Marine Corps’ operations, electrical energy is indispensable for the functioning of advanced weapons systems and sensitive electronics on ships and during field missions. Our table will demo several "The World's Simplest Motor". Students see how an electric current running through a coiled wire creates a magnetic field. Two magnetic fields, repelling and attracting each other, can be used to convert the electrical energy of the battery into the mechanical energy of a spinning part.

World of Waves, WOW!

The electromagnetic spectrum will be the star of the show as we use demonstrations to illustrate characteristics of light waves such as wavelength, frequency, and amplitude. We will present the ways we use light to understand what's going on inside the 150 M K plasmas we produce in our study of nuclear fusion.

NSF Center for Synthetic Organic Electrochemistry

Need a recharge? Build a battery! We want to build voltaic piles with participants- a smaller version of the first battery. Stacking zinc, copper, and paper washers dipped in vinegar, participants can build a battery to light an LED light! This activity lets participants learn about the parts of a battery- two electrodes and an electrolyte, and learn about the concepts of voltage and electrochemistry in a safe and engaging way.
