Biodiesel & Algal Studies Group

Since 2009 Castle Park High students, with Dr. Pomeroy of UCSD, have learned to produce biodiesel from vegetable oil. Students use a particle counter to determine how “clean” the fuel burns and discuss how particulate impacts our global climate. Students present this field data to support the benefits of biodiesel. Our booth, as in years past, will demonstrate the step-by-step process of biodiesel synthesis, discuss the advantages of biodiesel over petroleum and outline the ease of production.

CCI Solar- Caltech

Our booth will demonstrate current research in renewable and solar energy. Participants will get to make their own dye-sensitized solar cell (DSSC) from blackberry juice and other common household materials. We will also have hands on demos of solar panels, fuel cells, and wind energy. Kids and adults alike have loved playing with and learning about this technology at the past 3 EXPOs and we're excited to share this again at the 10th anniversary!

Robolink, Inc.

Robolink is an education company that teaches children programming and engineering principles with robots and drones. We are striving to nurture the makers, builders, and innovators of the future by learning STEM. We will be demoing our robotics and drone kit, as well as providing simple and easy workshops at our booth to show how we teach programming.

Science of Sport / Padres Science of Baseball

Come check out the Padres Science of Baseball program and see how we bring math and science to life using baseball. You will have the opportunity to test out the Blast Motion software and take some swings to see how fast your bat speed is compared to Major Leaguer Baseball players. You will also be able to interact with activities we offer in the program like trajectory of ball flight, reaction time, fielding percentage, geometric angles of the field and ballpark design.

TechKnowHow, Inc®

Attendees will be presented with various builds/examples of Robotics builds with legos. Students will be able to explore the different builds and use to test different scenarios to see how the build comes to life. Builds are powered with battery packs and move with motors and gears. Students will also be presented with computers that have different programs/projects with include Programming and Coding and also Game Design. Attendees have an opportunity to explore both Lego and computer projects.
