Fleet Science Center

Hands-on science activities for a wide range of ages led by Fleet Science Center staff and volunteers. We will also have information about Fleet programs for in-school, out-of-school, camps, clubs, adults, educators, and children.

Sweetwater Union High School District

Since 2009 Castle Park High students, with Dr. Pomeroy of UCSD, have learned to produce biodiesel from vegetable oil. Our booth demonstrates the step-by-step process of biodiesel synthesis, discusses the advantages of biodiesel over petroleum and outlines the ease of production. Our booth includes CAICE researchers who provide demonstrations concerning climate change and atmospheric chemistry. We also partner with Algenesis who demonstrate biodegradable materials that mimic plastics and foams.

National Park Service - Cabrillo National Monument

A sampling of hands-on STEM activities that showcase the natural resources of & real science performed in our National Parks. Attendees will learn about SD native plants & why invasive plants are destructive; try out reptile & amphibian study techniques; after learning about adaptations, they will build their own birds to demonstrate how organisms fit into their ecosystems; & more! These activities will be led by park scientists & youth apprentices, demonstrating science is for everyone!

U.S. Naval Academy

Midshipmen from the United States Naval Academy mentor you through your choice of several hands-on, interactive science and engineering activities for all ages. The diverse subject matter planned includes a range of STEM topics including chemistry, aerodynamics, electricity, logic, fluid mechanics and robotics.

San Diego Children's Discovery Museum

San Diego Children's Discovery Museum provides hands-on STEM experiences for children through its mobile exhibits program. Children can experiment with gravity on Ball Wall, use their imagination to architect buildings out of large foam blocks, and explore engineering through play. Each exhibit comes with unique STEM challenges to encourage children to push beyond their current knowledge and uncover endless opportunities to learn through play.

San Diego Mesa College Psi Beta/Psychology Department

Guests will engage in a variety of interactive activities that highlight concepts from Psychological Science that touch upon brain, cognitive, perceptual processes and emotion. These activities will feature amazing visual illusions, captivating sensorimotor tasks, thought -provoking short term memory exercises, mapping of visual shapes to speech sounds, visual inversion and captivating tests for recognizing emotional facial expressions. These activities appeal to a wide range of guests.
