We will have a Heart Rate activity designed for all ages and CPR demonstration.
We will have a Heart Rate activity designed for all ages and CPR demonstration.
Bioengineering applications such as genetic engineering and organ modeling.
County of San Diego resources and hand washing activity. Resources will include but not limited to: mental health, environmental health, COVID-19, Live Well San Diego, homelessness, CalFresh, 2-1-1, Grandparents Raising Grandchildren, etc.
Join our practicing engineers in hands-on demonstrations of scale model bridges. Test the limits of each model, and discover the secrets of how they work.
Learn how bridges withstand the forces of cars, trucks, trains, wind, earthquakes, and more. See and touch actual bridge materials. Learn how you, too, can become a bridge engineer!
*Mollie is sending Deb description of booth early next week - Marketing approving for me now.
Various SSPPS student organizations may be educating on topics including diabetes, immunizations, poison prevention, asthma/vaping, drug development, drug compounding, and we may possibly provide blood pressure screenings. (We're currently finalizing these topics, we will provide updates as soon as possible.)
Beach and Bay Water Quality Monitoring Program will use a 3-D watershed model to demonstrate how surface water run-of and pollution leads to contamination of our beaches and bays. This impact on our recreational waters can affect our health. Also, we plan on demonstrating the various laboratory processes used for water quality testing in our public health lab, which help identify if the water has microbial pathogens.
Our booth will have hands-on demos and exciting demonstrations on energy and the states of matter. We'll show everything from the coldest of the cold (liquid nitrogen) to the hottest of the hot (plasmas), and explore how the different states of matter behave when energy is added to them. We look at how magnets react to different materials. We also explore energy generation through a pedal-powered light generator, and discuss how nuclear fusion is the future of green energy.
The booth will include info about mosquitoes & public health. There will be interactive activities where visitors can look at insect samples under microscopes. Visitors will learn about the mosquito life cycle, entomology, and how to stay safe from vector transmitted diseases. There will also be giveaways like pencils, magnets, or magnifiers. Info about other environmental health programs including water quality analysis will also be available. We will try to have a Spanish speaker present.
It takes true community spirit and engagement to build a successful Festival Week and momentum to support ongoing programs. Our mission is to provide meaningful year-round STEAM experiences for youth and adults alike in San Diego, and throughout the state of CA through our virtual platform.
